FIRST Global Competition

The FIRST Global Challenge is an annual robotics game that address’ the 14 Grand Challenges identified by the United States of America’s National Academy of Engineering. Each year, a different Grand Challenge will take center stage as the theme of that year’s FIRST Global game, which will be held in a different nation each year.

It’s Official! At the Global Leadership Reception last week, surrounded by business leaders and diplomatic representatives from around the world, it was officially announced that the 2018 FIRST Global Challenge will be hosted in Mexico City from August 15-18, 2018 at Arena Ciudad de México!

And here’s the event logo for the 2018 FIRST Global Challenge! The design was inspired by the Ángel de Independencia (Angel of Independence) in Mexico City, which was built in 1910 to celebrate 100 years of Mexican Independence.

Theme for 2018 is “Energy Impact”. From commonly used fossil fuels to environmentally-friendly resources like solar and wind, energy is a tool that powers the different parts of our world one way or another. The 2018 FIRST Global Challenge will explore the impact of the different types of energy we use and how we can make them more sustainable.

In Energy Impact,
teams learn about real-world energy challenges surrounding electrical grid  connectivity and the role of diverse sources of energy. Teams will be organized into two  alliances comprising of three national teams per alliance that are randomized every game.

‘To know Malaysia is to love Malaysia’ – a bubbling and bustling melting-pot of races and religions where Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups live together in harmony. Our multiculturalism has made Malaysia a gastronomical paradise and peaceful home to hundreds of colourful festivals. There’s no doubt that we love celebrating and socialising with others. Being Malaysians, we are very relaxed, warm and friendly.
Meanwhile, Science and Technology education has always been of paramount importance in Malaysia. With Vision 2020 just on the horizon, Malaysia is moving a step closer to realising its goal to establish a scientific and innovative global community. Additionally, with STEM being incorporated in our education development plan and the recent implementation of computational thinking in the curriculum, our younger generation is on their way to having a strong foundation of becoming the 21st century digital citizens and future innovators of our rapidly evolving world.
Being a part of FIRST Global Challenge, Team Malaysia is going to be a representative of Malaysia. Plus, with the additional knowledge on robotics especially to build, program and the theories we have learnt throughout the journey, we are eager to actually apply it in the upcoming FGC. From there, we will go all out to test our efforts and knowledge as we compete with other countries from all around the world.
Now, it all depends on us, a group of 5 young believers from Kuala Lumpur, to ensure the dreams and visions of our fellow Malaysians will become a reality. Our team, that we proudly named Team Malaysia, will strive for excellence and achieve nothing else than the best.
For Malaysia!

There is one aspect that would define today’s Malaysian youths; their affinity among one another. Transcending the difference brought upon the diverse mix of race and cultures from the country’s history, they practically thrive off the unique benefits that each culture brings. The youths are raised in a synergistic community filled with the experienced eager to spread their knowledge for the curious to gather and discover. Malaysian youths are generally high-spirited, adventurous and are always equipped with a warm smile regardless of who they are interacting with. Embedded with the practice of respect for the elderly, to help those in need, and a strong will to defend their lineage, these youths are the perfect portrayal of modern Malaysians in the making. The very idea of treading their own path on the globe sets their spirit ablaze. With an appetite for something fresh, a chance to compete for a greater goal is every young Malaysians’ dream. Chosen from multiple schools, they are looking forward to give their best to achieve a common goal. Now, these youths are granted the opportunity reserved to only a few special individuals before them; to represent their nation before the eyes of the world.
